Cambodia garment factory workers, TAFTA textile association pushes local sourcing for LDC transition
First of all, Hem Vanndy, Cambodia’s Industry Minister, received a delegation from TAFTA. The group was led by newly appointed chairman In Choy Ho. The core topic was industrial cooperation as Cambodia plans to exit LDC status by late 2029.
Meanwhile, the minister pointed out a gap between large overseas factories and small domestic suppliers. He urged TAFTA to cooperate with authorities to grow local raw material and accessory industries. Strong local sourcing will lift local value addition and ease global supply chain risks for garment exporters.
Furthermore, TAFTA chairman In Choy Ho shared the sector’s rapid expansion. The industry grew from only 20 factories in the 1990s to over 860 member factories today. Currently, textile, footwear and travel goods manufacturing employs roughly 1.1 million Cambodian workers.
